Eva, The Angel (Part 2)

Adoption story of Eva, part 2

This is the second part of Eva’s rescue story. If you haven’t read the first part, you may read it here 👉 Eva, the Angel (Part 1)

The search

The search for Eva started as soon as I reached the adopter’s place. It was a densely populated colony and we went on asking everyone around about Eva. No luck! We couldn’t find her anywhere. Thankfully there was an institute beside his place with CCTV cameras. We talked to the management and they agreed to let us check the footage. We saw Eva getting out from underneath the gate and after a while a kid took her away. I took a snap of the kid’s face and we started searching for Eva and the kid.

A clue

By around 9 in the night a shopkeeper finally identified the kid. I heaved a sigh of relief! Unfortunately, the kid said he had left Eva somewhere on the way. We then checked the place where Eva was last seen and kept on searching and calling her name. People around were laughing looking at our efforts to locate a dog! It was about 1 am in the night when we decided to end the search for the day. I felt so lost and clueless!

Tried some magic too!

This was when the adopter told me about a ‘baba’ (fortune teller) with some magical powers who can see things. Though I don’t believe in such stuff, I decided to give it a shot without a second thought. I realized how we go beyond our beliefs in desperate times.

The next day, we woke up at 4 am and left to the fortune-teller’s place, hoping that he could tell us about Eva’s whereabouts. After waiting for an hour, when I told him why we were there, he looked at me in surprise. Followed by a moment of silence, he said, “I don’t have the permission to look for animals!” Very politely I thanked the ‘human only’ fortune teller and we left from there without wasting any more time.

More hands on deck!

We continued our search as soon as we went back. By around 6:30 in the morning, I managed to bribe some kids in helping me search. In case you’re wondering, the bribe was Kites. We searched almost every nook and corner of that locality in vain. I decided to level up my search and print flyers offering a cash reward of INR 5000 for whoever finds Eva. One of the kids took me to the print shop nearby. The shop had just opened and while we were waiting for the shopkeeper to get things ready, I got a call from the adopter saying he found Eva!

And the Angel came back

I don’t think I have ever felt so relived in my life; I was ecstatic! I rushed to the place like my ass was on fire! When Eva saw me, she vigorously wagged her tail, came running to me shrieking, and started licking me. I picked her up and checked and held her close for a while. I could only imagine the horrors she might have gone through in one night! She had some injuries on her head and tail but was otherwise fine.

Eva’s bike ride in a tank bag!

Even though the adopter requested, I was not ready to leave her there again. Thankfully, I had a tank bag on my motorbike. I bought a bedsheet, folded it, and placed it in the tank bag as bedding for Eva. I kept her inside and left a bit of the zip open for her to breathe. Eva and I rode back 200 km taking about 30 breaks and finally reached back to my place in Hyderabad in about 6 hours. Had to take the day off from work!

Almost a month from then we found Philip, the perfect human being for Eva. She has a brother now, and is happily chilling with Philip at her forever home! Do check out his Instagram handle, redsandpuppet to see how naughty Eva has become.

Eva, for me, opened the door to the world of stray animals. Her rescue story helped me realize how fulfilling and rewarding it is to help animals in need. She made me a better human being! Hope you all compassionate human beings out there find your Evas too!

Mahalo!
